Introduction
Celumusa is
a Multi-genre artist with most of his songs containing an Afro soul & a
Soft reggae feel. He is an acoustic
guitar player who writes and partially
produces his own music. He is so vibrant on stage that he can switch from a
studio pitch to a live performance atmosphere. He is also behind Swazilandās
famous theater play soundtrack titled "Buhle Buyeza", featuring Qibho
Intalektual.
Biography
Celumusa Mcolisi Mkhaliphi was born at
Emhlangeni in the Kingdom of Eswatini on the 11th of February 1990,
where he was raised by his grandmother under the Lamgabhi constituency. He
began his elementary level of school at Emhlangeni primary school. He commenced his secondary at Bhunya
Secondary School formerly known as Bhunya Usuthu High and completed his high
school at Inyandza high school in 2010.
He was fond of music at a very young
age, that in 2014 he decided to take guitar lessons under the mentorship of
Sakhile Sisa Sambo, Xolani Tsela, Bongisipho Mtshali, Sanele Nhlabatsi and the
late Cleffton Lukhele. In 2017 Celumsa started playing for poets as a backup
artist at their shows and parties, more especially at the Eswatini University
and he played for Sbu J the poet at theatre club. He also went on to back music artists in
different genres like the newly signed Sony Music Africa artist Flameboy
Universe, the beautiful Nomalungelo Dlala, Ezamaswazi and Qibho Intalektual to
name a few. That is when he realised that his strengths are in Afro pop &
soul, reggae, jazz and Gospel.
In 2018 Celumusa recorded a 6 track
mix-tape titled āTearsā to which he released for free in March 2019. The
project was recorded at Phoenix Records under Sibusiso Mndzebele, and was
produced by Nkosinathi Dube. Other people involved in the project are Sisa as a
co-producer of āI love youā and āRomeo & Julietā; Nompiliso who is also featured
on the same tracks; and Qhibo Intalektual who is featured on the āBuhle Buyezaā
remix.
Other tracks on the mix tape are āBuyaā
which is a dance-hall song that got airplay Ligwalagwala FM & SBIS 2; āBuhle Buyezaā
and āTearsā. The mix tape was also well received by the public.
CeLumusaās has perform at the Sibayeni
lodge lyrical live Thursdays now known as lyrical live Fridays. He also performed at Mduraās Comedy factory,
Buhle Buyeza Theatre play, Nkonyane Blanket donation and the Rotary Club
meeting & Hilton Garden with Nomalungelo Dladla. In May 2019 he went to
perform in Cape Town, alongside Ivory Coastās well known artist Yulele &
Mandelaās very own poet Zolani Mkiva.
